One Vintage. Four Mountains. Two Unique Expressions.
Winemaker Christopher Carpenter explores the more delicate, nuanced side of Napa Valley’s powerful mountain terroir through Caladan. With every growing season Christopher evaluates the quality of all our mountain vineyard sites and chooses the brightest star to guide each blend. The result – two distinct wines that showcase this world-renowned growing region through a lens less explored.
The 2018 season produced extraordinary fruit with great phenolic accumulation and without high sugar concentration. Late winter rains and a cloudy spring delayed bud break and flowering during the 2018 growing season. But then, fortune shined on the vineyards with ideal fruit set conditions, which drove up overall fruit volume by 20 to 30 percent. As the summer rolled in, steady heat accumulation and only a few heat spikes laid the way for a near-perfect fall growing period.
